Steak Feed

September 17 is the annual adult picnic and steak feed at the Mt. Savage fire hall. The festivities start at 6:PM, there will be plenty for everybody so no need to come early, give the grill time to get hot. Chef Chip Bosley is in charge of the entrée preparation and is at this time interviewing apprentice boys to help with the grunt work. Feel like volunteering see Chip.

Children’s Christmas Party

November 24 will be the annual children’s Christmas party at the downtown armory. This gala event will start immediately after the Christmas tree lighting on the downtown mall. As always volunteers will be needed to keep the little crumb snatchers in line, plans are in full gear for this event contact, Rick, Tina or Marie or watch for the sign up list.

Chapter Christmas Party

December 2 is the Chapter Christmas Party at Rocky Gap. We have reserved the entire hotel this year but, you had better call now and make your reservations now, with the “Fabulous Hubcaps” doing a show and dance set it is a safe bet the hotel will be sold out.

More Social Stuff

VVA Chapter 172 “may” be the largest Chapter in the country, depending on who’s doing the counting and what time of the month it is, so unofficially in my opinion it’s Chapter 172. So there I said it, fire me. Ken Darnay membership chair (who is frequently in a bad mood) has made the effort to fill the ranks and deserves some of the credit, atta boy.  The Friday TGIF has become very popular of late; it has become a good fundraiser for the Chapter. There have been some small glitches which we are in the process of correcting.

One of the things that we have to talk about is guests at the Chapter. If you bring a guest in please make sure that they understand that they are guest and that are with you.  When you leave they leave or you hand them off to another member. Also the fact that they are guest one time does not mean that they can come and go as they please. Lately a few guest have wandered in looking for a member they know, when the member wasn’t there the uninvited guest decided to wait around for awhile; not happening.

All things considered everything has been cool. We know that some of you have been upset with the noise level behind the bar, we have also done some work there to lower the vocal level to less than ear splitting.

Navy News

For you lads that served in the Navy during the Southeast Asian war party there is some Agent Orange news you may be eligible for compensation or health care. Check it out on the VVA National web site.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 21 — Photographer Joe Rosenthal, whose iconic image of U.S. troops raising the American flag on Iwo Jima became one of the most famous war photos of all time, has died at the age 94.
